Where Vanmates operates in Vancouver.

Each Vanmates neighborhood is picked for transit, safety, and walkable amenities — not just for sale-ability. Here's what to expect.

Kitsilano

Beachside Vancouver, 10 min by bus to UBC

Our flagship neighborhood and where Vanmates began in 2016. Kitsilano (or 'Kits') sits between Kits Beach and West 4th Ave's cafés, yoga studios, and groceries. A 10–12 minute bus ride drops you at the UBC campus loop; the seawall gets you downtown without ever leaving the water. Most of our Kitsilano homes are character houses with hardwood floors, big back gardens, and 4–6 rooms per house — a good mix of students and young professionals.

Mount Pleasant

Indie cafés, fast SkyTrain to downtown

Mount Pleasant is the Vancouver neighborhood where breweries and bookstores share the same block. The Broadway-City Hall SkyTrain station puts you downtown in 9 minutes and onto Commercial Drive in 5. Our Mount Pleasant houses are smaller — typically 3–4 residents per home — and lean toward graduate students and creatives. Solid pick if you want quiet streets but quick downtown access.

Burnaby

Best value, direct access to SFU, BCIT, and Metrotown

Burnaby gets you the most space per dollar in Greater Vancouver. Our Burnaby Heights and Metrotown homes are minutes from BCIT and a SkyTrain ride from SFU, with Metropolis at Metrotown (Canada's largest mall) for everything else. Expect single-family houses with 5–6 bedrooms, full kitchens, and street parking — practical for students who don't want apartment-block density.

Coal Harbour & Downtown

Walk-everywhere downtown, premium suites

For students or young professionals who want walking-distance access to downtown jobs, the seawall, and the West End. Our Coal Harbour units are furnished studios and private suites in modern buildings — typically a step up in price from co-living but with the privacy and amenity-building perks (gym, rooftop, concierge). Best for working students or short-term placements.

Common questions about renting in Vancouver.

How close are your Vancouver homes to UBC?

Our Kitsilano homes are 10–12 minutes by bus to the UBC campus loop. Marpole and Point Grey houses are closer (5–8 min). All routes are direct — no transfers needed. If UBC proximity is the priority, filter by Kitsilano or Point Grey on the search page.

Do you have rooms in downtown Vancouver?

Yes — we have furnished suites in Coal Harbour and the West End. These are typically studios or private one-bedroom units in modern buildings, priced higher than our Kitsilano/Burnaby co-living rooms. They're best for working students or young professionals who want walking-distance access to downtown.

What neighborhoods does Vanmates operate in?

Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant, Marpole, Burnaby (Heights and Metrotown), Coal Harbour, and a few smaller pockets like Renfrew Heights and Dunbar. We don't operate on the North Shore (North/West Vancouver). For SFU students, our Burnaby homes are the closest options.

What's the cheapest room you have in Vancouver?

Our Vancouver rooms typically start around CAD$850/month for a private room in a Burnaby co-living home. Kitsilano and Coal Harbour rooms are higher (CAD$1,200–$1,800). All prices are all-in: Wi-Fi, utilities, weekly cleaning, and 24/7 support included — there are no extras on top.

Are utilities and Wi-Fi really included?

Yes. Every Vancouver Vanmates room is all-in: rent covers furniture, Wi-Fi (200 Mbps), heat, electricity, water, and weekly cleaning of common areas. The only optional add-on is airport pickup (CAD$65).

Can I move in for less than 3 months?

Standard minimum is 3 months for co-living rooms. Vancouver homestays are more flexible — some families accept stays as short as 4 weeks for language-school students. Filter by stay duration on the search page to see what's currently available.
