Best neighborhoods
Where Vanmates operates in Vancouver.
Each Vanmates neighborhood is picked for transit, safety, and walkable amenities — not just for sale-ability. Here's what to expect.
Kitsilano
Beachside Vancouver, 10 min by bus to UBC
Our flagship neighborhood and where Vanmates began in 2016. Kitsilano (or 'Kits') sits between Kits Beach and West 4th Ave's cafés, yoga studios, and groceries. A 10–12 minute bus ride drops you at the UBC campus loop; the seawall gets you downtown without ever leaving the water. Most of our Kitsilano homes are character houses with hardwood floors, big back gardens, and 4–6 rooms per house — a good mix of students and young professionals.
Mount Pleasant
Indie cafés, fast SkyTrain to downtown
Mount Pleasant is the Vancouver neighborhood where breweries and bookstores share the same block. The Broadway-City Hall SkyTrain station puts you downtown in 9 minutes and onto Commercial Drive in 5. Our Mount Pleasant houses are smaller — typically 3–4 residents per home — and lean toward graduate students and creatives. Solid pick if you want quiet streets but quick downtown access.
Burnaby
Best value, direct access to SFU, BCIT, and Metrotown
Burnaby gets you the most space per dollar in Greater Vancouver. Our Burnaby Heights and Metrotown homes are minutes from BCIT and a SkyTrain ride from SFU, with Metropolis at Metrotown (Canada's largest mall) for everything else. Expect single-family houses with 5–6 bedrooms, full kitchens, and street parking — practical for students who don't want apartment-block density.
Coal Harbour & Downtown
Walk-everywhere downtown, premium suites
For students or young professionals who want walking-distance access to downtown jobs, the seawall, and the West End. Our Coal Harbour units are furnished studios and private suites in modern buildings — typically a step up in price from co-living but with the privacy and amenity-building perks (gym, rooftop, concierge). Best for working students or short-term placements.
